  general introduction The Wen Yuan Building on the campus of Tongji University had been constructed in the early 1950s in “modern style” (Bauhaus style). The building had been used by the Department of Building Engineering until end of 2005. It shall be re-conditioned for the needs of the College of Architecture and Urban Planning until mid 2007. The restoration shall result in an innovative building which has a strong demonstrative aura of future-oriented technologies.

  description The building is a 240 thick brick structure. 20mm mortared cement wet plasters were used on both interior and exterior walls. Exterior walls are with wall tiles decoratet. Exterior walls of the service center of the ground floor is with stone decoratet. Exterior windows are single glazed steel-framed windows.

Modern treatment needs efficient medical processes and a high speed communication. So we put all our knowledge of the last decades in our latest project and we constructed the new hospital based on the needs of modern medical treatment and ecological building. Still knowing that this is still not enough to face the great future challenges we were looking for partners to make communication work. We found them in Intel and Microsoft. Together we realized the global reference center for IT utilization in hospital.

     
   

The first “future hospital” is still reality in Germany. We hope to realize and adapt it to the chinese needs in Shanghai with the big support of the responsible chinese authorities and the city of Hamburg and its mayor.
