Bayer MaterialScience’s
investment in Polyurethane raw material
production in China |

Bayer MaterialScience is setting up
at the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park
the largest and most modern polyurethane
operations globally. This will include
the largest single-train MDI (methylene
diphenyl diisocyanate) production facility
in the world, with a total capacity
of 350,000 metric tons per year. The
entire polyurethane complex will be
fully integrated, including facilities
for all relevant precursors, as well
as logistics capabilities. |

The MDI project will be implemented
in two phases: In the first phase will
be concluded by the middle of this year,
a production plant is going to be built
for obtaining polymeric and monomeric
MDI from crude MDI, as well as all necessary
logistics facilities. In the second
phase, a production plant for crude
MDI with an annual capacity of 350,000
metric tons which is scheduled to go
on stream in 2008. |
